Canon Reviews: Canon DSLR Lineup

The first Canon camera, the Kwanon, debuted in 1934, after Goro Yoshida became angry at the high cost of the Leicas dominating the market at the time. That prototype camera was never actually released, but Canon has since then established a reputation for cameras with solid image quality and competitive pricing. That holds true for arguably their most popular options, the Canon DSLR.

Canon's DSLRs are known for being solid professional options, though there's plenty of entry-level options to choose from as well. Video quality is known to have a slight edge, though the gap has shortened in last few years. Most recent DSLR updates have seemed minor, with very few changes while Nikon and mirorless companies like Fujifilm have reworked their sensor design for enhanced detail without the optical low pass filter. Canon is beginning to follow suit though with a handful of models that don't use the filter like the EOS 5DS R and a higher resolution on the T6s and 5DS. Canon also offers one of the fastest DSLRs on the market with the EOS 7D Mark II.

Canon is a solid option for DSLRs--here's the current Canon DSLR lineup.
